How to apply for a research grant

Before applying please read our grant types and the relevant grant guidelines.

If you are a new applicant, ask a senior colleague for advice on how best to prepare an application.

Preparing your application

You will need to prepare a detailed research proposal (in Arial font size not smaller than 12 points) that complies with the instructions and eligibility criteria outlined in the specific grant guidelines.

Applying online

  • All applications must be submitted online using our Grants Management System (GMS).
  • New users will need to register before they submit an application. Existing users should sign in with their email address and their password and should update their profile if necessary.
  • Log onto the online application portal and select the appropriate grant type.
  • Ensure you have included all the items in the Case for Support checklist in your PDF attachment. The PDF file size must not exceed 20MB.
  • Ensure that the My CV section of the application form is up to date. 
  • Ensure that your application complies with the general terms described in Essential Information.
  • If a member of the application team is unable to complete online submission for exceptional circumstances, another senior member of the application team should contact us to discuss alternative arrangements.
