Information on heart disease
Rosco was born with the main arteries leaving his heart the wrong way round, putting his life in danger. Within days he had major surgery to switch the arteries back. This transformational operation, pioneered by BHF professor Sir Magdi Yacoub, means Rosco can enjoy a normal life.
Congenital heart disease is a problem with the heart that develops in the womb. 12 babies, like Lorenzo, are diagnosed with it everyday in the UK. Thanks to research, 4 out of 5 babies now survive to adulthood.
Our researchers are breaking new ground in their mission to improve the understanding, diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart disease to keep every tiny heart beating.
