Why support us

Heart and circulatory diseases are among the biggest threats facing humanity today. They are the number one cause of death globally, taking the lives of around 18 million people every year.

Our mission is to save and improve the lives of people with heart and circulatory diseases. We power this mission by raising money to fund research to prevent, detect, treat and cure all heart and circulatory diseases, including heart attacks, strokes and vascular dementia, and the conditions or risk factors that can cause them, like diabetes and high blood pressure.

Explore the breadth of our research.

Since we were established we have helped to halve the annual number of deaths from heart and circulatory diseases in the UK. But the global problem of heart and circulatory diseases has not been solved and it may well be getting worse. Those who survive acute events like heart attacks and strokes can face devastating, long-term consequences like heart failure. Conditions that significantly increase the chances of people developing heart and circulatory diseases such as diabetes and obesity are also rapidly rising.

Be part of something revolutionary

The BHF relies entirely on generous supporters to fund life-changing and life saving research. This support has made successes in BHF-funded research happen. But the burden of these diseases still greatly outweighs investment in research. We need your help to beat the world’s biggest killers.
