BHF awards £35 million funding to top UK universities

The image shows a human heart that has been made transparent to expose the dedicated electrical system that dictates the heartbeat and organises the heart’s rhythmic contraction. is visible as the tangle of fibres in the middle of the image. There are two glowing areas at the top of the heart – the atria, the top two chambers of the heart – and a branch around the outside on the left of the image - this is a coronary artery which supplies blood to the heart muscle. The image was taken by Judy Sayers, a researcher at the University of Oxford.
