While “An apple a day keeps the doctor away” may not be literally true, apples are a great, versatile fruit that lend themselves to sweet and savoury dishes. Here are some of our best apple dishes, from main meals to desserts and snacks.

1. Braised pork chops with apple
Pork and apple are a classic combination, and this warming and hearty dish is perfect served with seasonal vegetables on a cold day.
If you’re looking for a tasty vegetarian meal, look no further than this simple, budget friendly dhal which is nutritious, easy to make and low in fat, salt and sugar. (What’s more, if you have more apples than you know what to do with and are sick of them by now, you’ll hardly even notice them in the finished dish – they just add a subtle sweetness.) If you can’t get hold of split mung, yellow split peas are slightly different, but will still make a delicious dish.
