Rob's story

Two years ago Rob, 54, suffered a severe heart attack after a day at work. He didn’t suffer any previous symptoms and there was no family history of heart disease, so it came as a complete shock.

He was told by his surgeon that the damage from the heart attack was so severe, he wouldn’t have survived ten years ago. He still only has 20% function of his heart and now has an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator which will shock his heart should it fail.

“I thought I would be the last person in the world to have a heart attack” he says.

“There is no history in my family, I considered myself very fit and I’m not overweight.

“It was quite severe heart attack apparently and I had three stents fitted.

“I know there’s a lot of damage to the left ventricle and it is not working well. Every time it pumps it leaves some blood behind, which may clot and cause a stroke.

“I’ve now made changes to my lifestyle because I don’t want to die. I want to try to live because of my family.”
