Using social media for your group
Social media is a great tool for engaging your group members and the wider community. It's important to use it appropriately. We have tips and guidance on how to get the most out of social media.
BHF social media accounts
If you use social media, it's a good idea to follow:
- BHF's Facebook page (opens in a new window).
- BHF on X (formerly Twitter) (opens in a new window). You will need an X account to view BHF's page.
- BHF on Instagram (opens in a new window).
You can then share our posts with your own networks. This is a great way to help BHF reach more people. And remember to tag BHF in any posts about your fundraising so we can see how you’re supporting us and say thank you.
Feel free to share images and messages within your own networks that refer to your fundraising for BHF.
We do kindly ask that you don’t use the BHF’s logo as your profile picture. This helps to avoid any confusion with our own social media accounts. We also ask that you don’t change or customise our logo if it appears in any of your images. This helps to keep our brand recognisable with the public.
Boosting your group on social media
What to post on social media
If you’re comfortable doing so, let people know why you support the BHF and what motivates you to volunteer.
Share posts about BHF’s work to help people learn about the work we do.
Choosing the right social media platform
Consider which channel is the best match for your group. Each platform has different instructions and best practices.
For example, you can set up an events page on Facebook to share and generate interest in your fundraiser with your personal network.
LinkedIn can help you reach professional audiences, while Instagram and TikTok work well for younger audiences and more visual content. Instagram also has a handy fundraising feature that allows you to add a donate button to your profile.
Engage with your community via social media
Follow local organisations, clubs and associations so that you can build a relationship with them. This could lead to interesting opportunities to fundraise together. You could follow local businesses, sports or social clubs.
You should also engage with local newspapers and magazines. They might choose to feature your fundraising. Similarly, local councils may mention your events on social media if you engage with them too.
Update your page regularly
Keep your pages updated regularly with posts about what your group are doing. This will keep people in your network engaged and build a long-term connection with them. Post as often as you have updates that you think will be interesting.
Post messages before, during and after an event to give people a glimpse into preparations for the event and the great work you’re doing.
If you’re active across different social media platforms, it’s worth checking out Hootsuite (opens in a new window). Hootsuite is a tool that lets you manage your social media accounts from one place and schedule posts in advance.
