We are committed to funding research excellence – from discovery science to the translation of promising innovations into patient care and clinical practice. However, we will be bolder in our funding – supporting more ambitious science with the potential to rapidly accelerate progress for people affected by all cardiovascular diseases.
We will achieve this through:
Programme grants
Our Programme Grants, which support large programmes focused on addressing a specific research challenge, will support bigger and more ambitious proposals.
Project grants
Our Project Grants, which support shorter-term research projects, will now have the scope to award grants of up to £500,000 over four years.
Grand challenges
Our new series of Grand Challenges will make awards of up to £10 million to rapidly accelerate progress in relation to a significant research opportunity or area of unmet need.
Clinical study grants
Clinical Study Grants will be for clinical studies that cost more than £500,000. We want to see ambitious proposals that will have an impact on patient care, recognising that practice changing studies may require broad collaboration and appropriate financial support.
Translational research
Our support for translational research has been greatly expanded. Our new Pump-Priming Award will support researchers to answer specific questions that will increase their chances of securing a full translational award. And the size and scope of funding for full translational awards has been expanded to support more discoveries reach patients.
Healthcare Innovation Fund
Our Healthcare Innovation Fund tests and evaluates innovative approaches to the delivery of improved services for people with cardiovascular disease.
