Our clinical trials

BHF funds clinical trials that make a difference to people with all types of heart and circulatory disease. Here you can discover the findings of our current and previous trials.

What are clinical trials?

Clinical trials are medical research studies involving patient volunteers. They are carried out to:

  • find better ways to prevent, diagnose or treat disease
  • provide crucial evidence that diagnostic tests or treatments are safe and effective.
Whether the results are positive or negative, these studies help answer key questions for both patients with cardiovascular disease and their clinicians.

Current clinical trials

We are currently supporting 46 clinical trials worth around £37m. We fund trials across a broad range of heart and circulatory conditions, and their risk factors, such as diabetes and chronic kidney disease.
