Professor and fundraiser

Thank you to Professor Iain for your commitment to BHF

Iain Greenwood is a Professor of Vascular Pharmacology at City St George's, University of London and the co-director for the BSc in Clinical Pharmacology. But since 2017 he’s also the leader of the St Georges University Fundraising Group who passionately and consistently fundraise for British Heart Foundation.
The group are always keen to help and volunteer with the BHF in any event, and over the years have hosted and organised a whole range of fundraising activities. The most recent event was a Stand-Up Comedy Night during Heart Month in February 2025. This event has taken place four times (2018, 2020, 2023 and 2025) and in total raised over £10,000.

Joshua Hardman, Fundraising Manager for South London says, “Iain has a passion for the British Heart Foundation, raising donations, all while inspiring the next generation of scientific minds. Professor Iain’s dedication and commitment over the years has been incredible, everyone at BHF is extremely grateful. We cannot thank him enough for all that he has done.”

Keep an eye out for any future events that take place at City St George's, University of London!

Professor Greenwood and his team at St George’s, University of London are currently researching better ways to treat high blood pressure by understanding exactly how the condition develops. Around 30% of adults in the UK have high blood pressure, which raises the risk of heart disease. However, the exact process that causes blood vessels to contract too much is still not fully understood. Professor Greenwood and his colleagues have recently identified a protein that could be the key. By learning how this protein contributes to the development of high blood pressure, they hope to find new ways to tackle the condition.
