Celebrating 40 years of Pocklington

Community Fundraising branch hits milestone and continue to wave the flag for BHF

The Pocklington & District Branch was founded by Doreen Morgan over 40 years ago and as a committee have always upheld Mrs Morgan’s ethos no matter how small the event, ‘we are raising the flag and awareness of the BHF to the general public.’ And the group continue to organise an array of events every year, carrying the legacy of Mrs Morgan.

Christine Hindwell also known as Chris, joined the group in 1988 as a member of the first committee just a few years after it was founded. Chris cared for her mum who had a heart disease and despite not being well off, Chris’s mum would donate to the Dr Boyle’s Heart Fund every time they visited York Hospital. Her mum sadly passed away in 1992, when Chris was 46 years old.

Chris is now Chair of the Branch and has been for the last 20 years and has cherished every moment, “I have absolutely loved my time as Chair. I have met some amazing and inspiring people, been fascinated by visiting laboratories and listening to the experts, but my main enthusiasm has been locally from our amazing committee who are some of my best friends. As well as the support I personally have gained from the local community.”

Over the 40 years the branch have fundraised an amazing amount of £340,838 and counting.
Chris says, “I cannot believe the branch is still going strong after 40 years. My committee and how hard they work, and their dedication and commitment are my pride and joy. We all have fun raising funds for the BHF and my motto is ‘no matter how large or small the event is, we are flying the flag and raising awareness for BHF in our community’.”

The branch has organised lots of events over the years from annual golf days with local businesses for sponsorship, quizzes, Christmas Carol services, and coffee mornings. This year they’re also organising a luncheon with a guest speaker.

Thank you Pocklington for your outstanding fundraising efforts and support - we can’t wait to see what else you get up to!
