BHF volunteer wins Community Activism Award

Since joining the BHF as a volunteer on his birthday, Thomas, has become a true advocate and ambassador for the BHF at his school and within his local community.

The BHF is a big part of Thomas’ family. He originally started volunteering in November 2021 after his grandfather passed away from a blood clot. His mum also works for the BHF as the Shop Manager of our Enniskillen shop in Northern Ireland.

Thomas was recently awarded The Baroness May Blood Award for Community Activism at his school awards for his commitment to the BHF and volunteering. He’s a true ambassador for the BHF, has encouraged his friends to volunteer, signed his teachers up to Gift Aid and generated a lot of stock from his school, friends and teachers.
Jill, Thomas’ mum, is proud of Thomas’ development over the last two years, “The change from 2021 onwards has been phenomenal. Everything improved from his confidence, personality, happiness. Because he has autism and learning difficulties, Thomas never really had friends, and now he has friends and he volunteers with them in our shop.”

This month Thomas was also appointed his school president and will be the lead fundraiser for his school so we can’t wait to see what else he does to support the BHF, his shop and his community. Good luck Thomas!
