1. Choose an idea

The best place to start is with a fundraising idea that feels right for you. Some people love putting their own spin on a fundraiser, while others prefer signing up to something. What matters is picking an idea that fits your time, interests and the people you’d like to involve.

If you want to organise your own event, we have lots of inspiring fundraising ideas that you can tailor to your goals. Or, if you’d rather take part in something we already run, explore our BHF events - from runs and bike rides to virtual challenges, there’s plenty to get involved in!

2. Plan your fundraiser

Once you’ve chosen your fundraising idea, creating a simple plan can make for a smooth event. Think about the basics, like when and where your fundraiser will take place, what you’ll need on the day and how to keep things safe and legal.

To help you plan with confidence, read our handy step-by-step guides including how to run a coffee morning, quiz night or raffle.

3. Set up an online fundraising page

An online fundraising page makes it easy for people to support you and helps you keep track of your progress. It also gives you a simple link you can share with friends, family and colleagues whenever you’re ready to spread the word.

Our guide on how to set up a JustGiving page walks you through each step, from creating your page to adding a message that explains why you’re fundraising. It’s quick to do, and you can update your page at any time.

4. Get the word out

Once everything’s in place, it’s time to let people know what you’re doing. Sharing your fundraiser with loved ones, colleagues and your wider community can make a big difference, and people are often more than happy to support when they know how.

Our tips on promoting your fundraiser can help you decide where to start, from social media to emails and word of mouth. You can also use our free fundraising resources, like posters, social media graphics and email templates, to help spread the message and make your fundraiser stand out.

5. Give your fundraising a boost

Once you’re up and running, there are simple ways to raise even more from your event without much extra effort, such as adding Gift Aid to your fundraising.

Our guide on how to increase your fundraising shares practical ideas to help you make the most of what you’re doing. It’s worth a look early on so you can build these ideas into your plans if they’re right for you.
