Orla

At just 1 week old, Orla was diagnosed with a rare congenital heart condition and underwent open heart surgery to save her life. She has been a vital part of Alder Hey’s innovative Little Hearts at Home digital monitoring programme – a platform designed to support families of children with complex heart needs.

James

James, 7, was born with 3 holes in his heart and a bicuspid aortic valve. Despite experiencing chest pain, tiredness, and shortness of breath, James is determined to live life to the fullest.

Nominate a Young Heart Hero

Who can I nominate?

Young Heart Heroes must be aged 11 or under at the time of nominating and be at least one of the following:

  • a heart patient diagnosed or born with a heart or circulatory condition
  • an advocate for BHF who raises awareness of heart and circulatory diseases within their school and local or wider community
  • a lifesaver who has helped save the life of a family member, teacher, friend, or stranger.

We reserve the right to close Young Heart Hero nominations at any time.

What happens after I submit a nomination?

Your nomination

All nominations will undergo a review process by our awards panel to check eligibility and consider your nominee for any other relevant Heart Hero Awards categories.

This process can take a few months, so don’t worry if you do not hear back from us for a little while. We will be in touch about your Young Heart Hero nomination.

Winners and acknowledgements

All Young Heart Hero nominees who are eligible for an award following the above criteria will automatically qualify as a winner.

Each eligible Young Heart Hero will receive a special acknowledgement from BHF in recognition for their amazing achievement.

Parents or guardians of eligible winners will be encouraged to share their Young Heart Hero's award publicly and may be contacted with the option to feature in BHF promotional activity (including media, etc).
