Fundraising Hero
The Fundraising Hero award recognises an individual or group that has gone above and beyond to raise vital funds for BHF. This award celebrates those whose dedication, creativity and innovation have made a significant impact in supporting BHF's lifesaving research and work.
Meet our 2024 Fundraising Hero, Andy McKay
In 2011, Andy McKay suffered the unbearable loss of his beautiful daughter, Jenna, when she was just 18 years old to a previously undiagnosed condition - idiopathic myocardial fibrosis.
He began channelling his grief into fundraising for BHF. Along with wife Gillian, son Andrew, brother-in-law Alan, and hundreds of friends, the family have skydived, ran, walked, climbed, cycled and golfed to raise money in Jenna’s name. “Doing the fundraising makes me feel better about it and we are remembering Jenna, not that we are ever going to forget her,” says Andy. “And it’s not just family, it’s friends, and everyone else who knew her.”
Andy’s efforts have raised over £200,000 for BHF, that has gone towards funding lifesaving research – it’s his way of keeping Jenna’s memory alive while helping to make sure other families don’t suffer the same heartbreak.
