Notes

Data are presented for cardiovascular disease (CVD) overall and for individual conditions that fall within CVD, for example coronary heart disease or stroke.

CVD is strongly linked to age and figures that are not age-standardised may reflect differences in population age structures.

  • Mortality: This data uses a narrow definition of CVD (ICD-10 codes I00-I99), national-level figures presented here will not align with other BHF content which uses a wider definition.
  • Prevalence: Prevalence shows how many people are diagnosed with a condition, based on primary care disease registers, as a proportion of GP practice populations. Overall CVD prevalence is an estimate based on BHF analysis.
  • Risk factors: Obesity and smoking prevalence are estimated from survey data, shown as a proportion of adult population size. Hypertension and diabetes figures are diagnosed cases from primary care disease registers, as a proportion of GP practice populations.
  • Waiting list: Waiting list data are not available at constituency level. Instead, data are shown for the health board(s) covering the selected constituency and should not be interpreted as constituency-level counts.
Source

Data in this dashboard comes from a variety of sources, detailed source information is available on the 'Information' tab. Constituency-level data is not available directly from these sources, and has been modelled by BHF from available data.
