This Heart Month we are delighted to announce a new partnership with PureGym, the UK’s leading gym chain. The three-year partnership aims to raise £5 million to fund essential and life-saving research into heart and circulatory conditions.
In the UK 1 in 2 of us will experience a heart or circulatory condition during our lifetime, and sometimes the signs can be difficult to spot. Together, with PureGym, we want to inspire a healthier nation, one heartbeat at a time by educating people on how to prevent, treat and manage their heart conditions through the following initiatives:
Healthy Hearts Programme
In conjunction with us, PureGym will provide people with free access to informative guides, information and support through the award winning PureGym app.
Survival Programme
The survival programme will give thousands more people the skills they need to attempt to save a life with CPR. PureGym aims to offer life-saving learning resources to all PureGym members as well as adding hundreds more defibrillators to the national defibrillator network.
Cardiac Rehab Programme
This programme will deliver a personal, community-based service to aid recovery from a traumatic cardiac event and give advice on how to build heart strength, by training PureGym personal trainers in Cardiac Rehabilitation.
Our Chief Executive, Dr Charmaine Griffiths, said:
“We are thrilled to be partnering with PureGym to improve heart health across the UK. The partnership provides an exciting opportunity for PureGym and the BHF to deliver a range of transformational projects, making a genuine difference to the health of the nation, and raising an incredible amount of money which will power science to help save lives.
“There are 7.6 million people living with heart and circulatory diseases in the UK, and one in four deaths are caused by devastating conditions like coronary heart disease, stroke and vascular dementia. Together we can make a difference by providing people with the information, support and skills they need to reduce their risk of developing these diseases and live a healthier life, one heartbeat at a time.”
To kickstart this partnership, PureGym have donated £100,000 to the BHF for Heart Month.
Rebecca Passmore, UK Managing Director of PureGym, said: “PureGym is delighted to be the first official gym partner of the British Heart Foundation and to play a role in improving the nation’s heart health. We recognise the essential role that exercise plays in maintaining a healthy heart and are excited to now be working with the British Heart Foundation to help not only our members, but the nation as a whole, to be better equipped to prevent, treat and manage their heart conditions.”
