Mac Twins announced as new BHF ambassadors

We are delighted to announce that top DJs and founders of The Gut Stuff, The Mac Twins, have joined us as ambassadors after the shock loss of their father as we celebrate our 60th year.

Lisa and Alana Macfarlane’s link to the BHF sadly began after their father Kenny suddenly died from a heart attack whilst playing golf at age 58 in 2014. Since this tragic incident, Lisa and Alana have been committed to supporting our life saving research.

There are currently 7.6 million people in the UK living with heart and circulatory diseases. Every day, around 70 people will die in the UK from heart attacks and every five minutes, someone will be admitted to hospital because of a heart attack.

The twins have supported us for many years. In 2018 the sisters ran the London Marathon for the BHF and have attended many of our red-carpet fundraising events. Following their time as the resident Love Island DJs, they DJ’d for our Heart Hero Awards in 2019 and presented an award also.

Lisa Macfarlane said: “We’re delighted to have been appointed as British Heart Foundation ambassadors! The cause is incredibly close to our hearts and we want to do all we can to help and the BHF tell the world how crucial research into heart conditions is.”

Alana Macfarlane continued:“We’ve loved working with the BHF over the past few years and we are really looking forward to getting more involved with this incredible charity, especially in their 60th year of helping to save lives. Everything we do for the BHF, we do for our dad to honour his memory by helping others.”

Fundraise for our 60th birthday

As our 60th birthday approaches in July, Lisa and Alana are encouraging the public to join Team 60 by taking on a fundraising challenge to raise funds for ground-breaking research.

Alongside this initiative, Lisa and Alana’s first activity as newly appointed ambassadors will be joining our partner, Mindful Chef for a live cook-a-long at 7pm on 30th June. The sisters will be cooking up a dish from Mindful Chef’s range of recipes to help keep your heart healthy, approved by BHF dietitians. Hosted live on Mindful Chef's social channels, the pair will be sharing their own health tips and viewers will be encouraged to order the Roasted sweet potato, avocado & tahini drizzle recipe in advance and cook-a-long with them.

Mac Twins with their father

Our Chief Executive, Dr Charmaine Griffiths, said:

“Lisa and Alana have been such a wonderful support to the BHF over the years and I’m delighted that they have now become ambassadors for our life saving work.

“Having lost their father to a heart attack, their support for the BHF is deeply personal, as it is for so many people who've lost loved ones to heart and circulatory diseases. The Mac Twins have generously supported BHF events and taken on the gruelling 26.2 miles of the London Marathon to raise urgently needed funds. We’re hugely grateful to them and it is my great pleasure to welcome them to the BHF family as our new ambassadors.”
