Book a free furniture collection
We can pick up furniture and electrical items from your home for free. The items you donate are then sold in our furniture stores to help fund our lifesaving research.
How it works
Our furniture collection service allows you to donate furniture and electrical items from your home for free. To request a free furniture collection, simply tell us your postcode and follow the steps by using our online form.
You will need to tell us:
- what items you would like to donate
- your preferred collection date (subject to availability)
- your contact details.
If we need more details about your items, or if we cannot collect on your preferred date, your local BHF store will contact you within 3 to 5 working days.
This service is currently for collecting furniture and electrical items. We can accept bags and boxes of other small items, but only if you are also donating household items.

Before you start
To cover the cost of our collection service and raise funds, we need to be able to sell the items you donate in our shops. Our van crews will not accept items that cannot be sold.
This means items have to meet legal and health and safety standards, and also be in good condition.

By law, we cannot sell upholstered furniture in our stores without a fire safety label.
Upholstered furniture has cushioning, padding or fabric covering. Examples of upholstered furniture include sofas, mattresses and padded dining chairs.
If you are donating upholstered furniture to our stores, you must make sure that:
- there is a fire safety label firmly attached or sewn into every item you donate
- there are no rips or tears that expose the inner fabric, as this means it no longer meets fire safety standards.
Our van crews cannot accept items that do not meet this criteria.

If you have a lot of large items to donate or are having a clear out, you may require our house clearance service instead.
To cover the cost of our collection service and raise funds, we need to be able to sell the items you donate in our shops.
This means items:
- should not have obvious stains, rips, marks or odours
- must work (particularly electrical items)
- must have all parts in place (for example, no missing doors on wardrobes, no missing drawers on a chest of drawers).
Our van crews will refuse to take items that we cannot sell.

For legal and health and safety reasons, we cannot accept:
- washer/dryers and certain models of washing machines
- oil-filled heaters without a thermostat
- hard-wired electrical heaters
- children's items such as cots or prams
- ivory or fur
- upholstered items without fire safety labels
- used personal items
- safety equipment such as helmets or harnesses
- weapons, flammables or hazardous liquids.

- We can only collect items from individuals over the age of 18 years old.
- We may decline the donation if we feel the donor is vulnerable and not able to make an informed decision.
- For safety and quality reasons, we reserve the right to decline certain items. Our drivers are trained and trusted to make these decisions at their discretion. For more details, read our collection criteria.
- You should ensure that we have safe and free access to the premises at which the collection is to take place. You should also notify us in advance of any circumstances we need to be aware of. This includes, but is not limited to, poor accessibility, bulky items, dangerous or hazardous substances, or lack of parking in the area.
- You must be present during the collection unless we have agreed otherwise in advance. If we agree to attend the premises in your absence, you must ensure the site is accessible, and that you have provided us with your contact details.
- All upholstery items must have a fire label clearly visible, intact and legible. Items without a fire label cannot be accepted, as it is illegal for us to sell or redistribute them.
- By submitting your enquiry, you confirm that you are either the owner of the goods or authorised to offer them to BHF. Once collected, the control of the goods transfers to BHF. Where BHF cannot sell them, goods maybe passed onto other organisations for re-use or recycling.
- You agree to indemnify (cover the costs for) BHF against any losses or liabilities that may arise, from third parties or otherwise. This includes any disputes about the ownership of property or any other legal dispute.
Due to the nature of the service, we cannot guarantee avoiding any damage to property during the collection process. You should inspect the premises once our collection is complete and notify us of any damage before the team have left the premises. Please let BHF know in writing about any damage within 7 days of the collection being completed. We cannot accept responsibility for any damage reported after this period.
We will aim to carry out the clearance on an agreed date, but there may be operational issues beyond our control. We will contact you as soon as reasonably possible to agree a revised date where necessary.
We will only use the personal information you provide to us (such as your name, phone number, email address and property address) to carry out the collection service.
If you need to make changes or cancel your booking, please contact us by 3pm the day before your collection. Missed collections cost us money. Help us ensure your donation supports research, not operational costs.
