A tool created by the British Heart Foundation and the Strategy Unit illustrates the socioeconomic inequalities along the coronary heart disease (CHD) pathway for the first time.
It allows us to pinpoint where these inequalities lie, from risk factor identification and prevention, through to diagnosis, treatment and death rates.
It's important to look at inequalities across each part of the typical CHD pathway to identify which areas to target to close these gaps.
Download the full report below or read on for key findings.
Key findings from the tool are:
- premature deaths are more likely amongst patients from the most deprived areas
- patients from the most deprived areas are more likely to be identified with risk factors
- patients from the least deprived areas are more likely to receive preventative healthcare like flu vaccines, medications and elective procedures.
Watch our webinar
Our March webinar discussed how to navigate the tool, and its intended use, followed by Q&A from participants.Help us shape our work
At the BHF, we want to ensure that people affected by heart and circulatory diseases from any background have the opportunity to influence and shape our work. As such, we particularly welcome individuals from marginalised groups to share their experience with us. If you are interested in getting involved please email us at [email protected] or fill in our form using the button below.
