Donations from trusts and foundations are supporting pioneering scientists at the tops of their fields; our researchers are investigating how to prevent, effectively treat and cure cardiovascular disease, working in collaboration with colleagues in the UK and abroad, and the role BHF scientists play in reducing suffering and death from cardiovascular disease is enormous.
Making a donation
We have more than 1,000 active research projects at any one time, and are happy to restrict donations to specific projects or professors if requested. Otherwise donations will go towards our general core research and prevention, survival and support costs. We are grateful for gifts of all sizes; every grant contributes to the reduction of cardiovascular disease.
We are keen to involve our supporters in our work, and are always pleased to provide updates on funded work. We can also arrange visits to our research labs so funders can talk to the scientists and experience the research first-hand.
Heart Pioneer regular giving programme
Our Heart Pioneers are an important group of supporters making a big difference to our research by donating £1,000 and more each year.
Our Heart Pioneers help to power our life saving research and enable us to continue to be the single biggest independent funder of Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) research in the UK. At the British Heart Foundation (BHF), we rely almost entirely on the generosity of people who give their time and money to beat heartbreak forever.
Thanks to generous people like you, the annual number of deaths from CVD in the UK has fallen by half since the BHF was established. However, CVD still causes more than a quarter of all deaths in the UK – an average of one death every three minutes. This makes your support vital.

Our Heart Pioneers provide regular support that helps to ensure we can continue to grow as a charity and achieve our goal to fund more vital research each year. In 2016/17 we awarded a total of £107.5m in lifesaving grants and each year we aim to continue to grow the amount of world class research we fund.
