Join us to help beat the world’s biggest killers

Heart and circulatory diseases kill one in three people worldwide.

Since 1961, we have made remarkable advances in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of heart and circulatory diseases. Thanks to breakthroughs made by BHF-funded researchers, we’ve helped improve health outcomes across the UK and beyond, saving and improving millions of lives.

See the story of our impact

But the burden of these diseases isn't matched by investment in research which could help end their heartbreak. We need your support, to continue accelerating discovery and turning discoveries into lifesaving medical advances. By partnering with us you could not only help those living with heart and circulatory diseases today, but prevent people developing and dying from them in the future, too.

Why support us

You may wish for your gift to be restricted to a specific project, or ask us to direct it towards the area of greatest need. Read more about the areas of our work you could choose to support below.

Support pioneering research projects and programmes to save and improve lives

We fund research into all heart and circulatory diseases, including heart attacks, strokes and vascular dementia, and the conditions or risk factors that can cause them, like diabetes and high blood pressure. We also fund support services, groups and programmes for people with heart and circulatory diseases.

You may be interested in supporting research into the prevention of strokes, improved treatments for heart failure or a support programme to support young people with heart conditions. Whatever your area of interest, our philanthropy team will help you find the right project for your gift.

Invest in the career of a future research leader

The BHF has a long and distinguished track-record in identifying and supporting the world’s research leaders in cardiovascular science and medicine. The research training studentships and fellowships we provide to support early-career scientists are a key part of our prominent contribution to the UK cardiovascular research effort.

To maintain progress towards a world free from the fear of heart and circulatory diseases, we must continue to engage the brightest minds in cardiovascular research and nurture their development at this critical early stage.

Drive radical change

The Big Beat Challenge is a global competition that will culminate in our biggest ever single research award. We challenged researchers to form international, multi-disciplinary teams and propose a transformative solution to a significant problem in any heart or circulatory disease, with a clear route to patient benefit.

Our unique position and the scale of the award have allowed us to mobilise knowledge, talent and resources that transcend national, professional and cultural borders, significantly increasing the probability of developing solutions that work today and for generations to come. By supporting the Big Beat Challenge, you could help define the next decade in cardiovascular science and medicine

Be part of something revolutionary

As we enter the new era of digital medicine, there is a growing need to foster excellence in data science and untap its enormous potential. Established in partnership with Health Data Research UK, the new BHF Data Science Centre has the potential to transform heart and circulatory disease research, innovation and care.

The Centre is rapidly establishing itself as a national resource for researchers, clinicians and policymakers. It is already an important part of the data analysis and insight that informs Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies recommendations to Government.
