Where your money goes

How does BHF spend donations?

Net income available for charitable purposes for 2022/23 was £144m, or 80% of total income (net of retail costs). This exceeded our target of ensuring that at least 70p in every £1 is available to fund our lifesaving work.

During 2022-23, we invested £133m in delivering our charitable mission, including a net £99m in medical research. The balance was spent on helping families affected by heart and circulatory disease with support and information.

We remain very conscious of the need to spend wisely every penny of the money our supporters raise, whilst ensuring we continue to invest to grow our income to build on our position as the UK’s leading independent funder of research into heart and circulatory diseases.

How you can help

There is still so much work we need to do. More than seven million people in the UK live with heart and circulatory diseases and these diseases are responsible for around a quarter of all deaths.

Thank you for all your continued support and donations, but there is still more work to do. Our ambition is to invest over £1billion in cardiovascular research over the next 10 years. Help us beat heartbreak forever by donating today.
