- Reflections of Research competition (“Competition”) is run by British Heart Foundation ("BHF"), Greater London House, 180 Hampstead Road, London, NW1 7AW.
- The Competition will be open on Saturday 1 March 2025.
- BHF reserve the right to close the Competition period early or to change the entry period at any time.
- All entries to the Competition must be received by 23:59 on Friday 18 April 2025 to be eligible.
- Only entrants that have not previously won the Competition within the past 5 years will be eligible.
- Only one entry per person, per image is permitted into the Competition.
- The Competition is only open to people aged 18 or over and resident in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
- All submissions entered must have arisen from a current BHF grant, or a grant that has been closed for no more than one year.
- BHF will not be responsible for any delay or failure of any entry forms to be submitted by the entry deadline or for any incomplete entry forms received.
- BHF take no responsibility or liability for any lost, damaged, or incomplete entry forms howsoever caused. All lost, damaged, or incomplete entries will be deemed invalid. Any proof of registration shall not be proof of delivery or receipt of an entry to the Competition.
- All entry forms must be completed in full to be eligible for inclusion into the Competition. Incomplete application forms will not be processed and for the avoidance of doubt the entrant will not be eligible to continue in the Competition.
- It is a condition of the Competition that the entry form is fully completed, answering all sections in the ‘Image Details’ section, reflects the relevant BHF-funded research project, and is submitted at the same time as the image.
- All entrants must state the grant reference number relating to the BHF-funded research project in the submission.
- BHF reserves the right to cancel the Competition at any time.
- BHF reserves the right to change the category that an entrant has submitted for if the submitted details are deemed better suited to another category. In this circumstance BHF will discuss this with the entrant in the first instance.
- The BHF team will review every fully completed entry received.
- The BHF team reserves the right to reject any entry that does not meet the Competition criteria.
- Competition entries will be shortlisted by members of the BHF team.
- Winning images will be determined in two categories as follows:
- Judges’ Winner – the shortlisted images will be judged by a panel, and a winner chosen as the Judges’ Winner.
- Supporters’ Favourite – the shortlisted images will be put to a public vote through BHF’s social media channels, and the winning image will be determined by the highest number of votes received and announced as the Supporters’ Favourite.
- All entrants will be notified by email after the judging process has taken place if they have been shortlisted or unsuccessful in proceeding.
- The BHF judging panel’s decision is final and binding in all matters.
- Entries of images must adhere to the following criteria:
- Images must be clear with no blurring and can be submitted in either partial or full colour, or in monochrome. All forms of imagery will be considered.
- All images must be submitted in a Square (1:1) aspect ratio and must be in a format of the highest possible resolution.
- All images must be submitted with a short and concise text to enable BHF to describe the appearance or function of all submitted images on the BHF website.
- Each entrant accepts that they are responsible and liable for ensuring that any submitted images which display an identifiable person or persons have been taken with the permission of the person or persons featured.
- Shortlisted entrants may be invited to attend a Competition ceremony or event in person to announce the winner.
- BHF reserve the right at their discretion to retract any invitation to attend the Competition ceremony or event.
- BHF reserves the right at their discretion to withdraw any submitted entry at any time without giving notice of any reason.
- Submitting an entry to the Competition does not guarantee that entrants will receive an award or an acknowledgment from BHF.
- BHF will provide the Competition winners from each category with a prize. The prize will be a £150 Amazon voucher and a physical award.
- The winners’ prize is non-transferable (unless written permission is obtained from BHF) and cannot be exchanged or sold.
- BHF reserves the right to change the prize or cancel the Competition at any time.
- If the winner/s cannot be contacted for any reason or decides to decline their prize, BHF reserves the right to select a substitute winner/s.
- Entrants shall be responsible for ensuring that the contact details they provide are up to date and accurate.
- All entrants will retain intellectual property rights, but BHF is granted a non-exclusive license, royalty free, in perpetuity, to use submitted images in any promotional material BHF decides to produce, whether electronic, printed or otherwise without any payment. In addition, the image may be used by BHF in any press and/or communication materials (including any communications on social media platforms e.g. X, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok).
- All submitted images may be used by BHF in publicity and campaigns not directly affiliated with the Competition.
- By entering the Competition all entrants agree to co-operate with BHF to answer any media queries regarding their submitted research project.
- BHF may contact entrants at any time to be involved in campaign or promotional work outside of the Competition.
- Entrants may be required to become involved in future publicity, and photographs of entrants may be used by BHF in press, communication, and promotional materials with the entrant’s consent.
- The public vote is not open to employees of BHF, their families, or agents of BHF, or anyone involved in administering the Competition.
- Any data collected is for the purpose of the Competition and to contact and notify the entrants only.

- Information that is submitted as part of an application may be included on the BHF website, with exception of contact details.
- No purchase is necessary to enter the Competition and is free to enter.

- warrant that your entry is original and has not been copied from a third party’s copyrighted work;

- warrant that all information submitted by you is true, current and complete.

- All videos must only be submitted by BHF-funded PhD students.
- All submitted videos must be about the ‘day in the life’ of a BHF-funded PhD student. Entrants have full flexibility to include whatever video content best describes this brief, and to edit the video accordingly.
- All videos must be recorded and submitted in landscape format. Any videos submitted not in this format will be deemed non-eligible and the submission will be rejected from the Competition.
- All submitted videos are to be no longer than 60-90 seconds in duration. Any videos beyond this duration may be deemed as not eligible and rejected from the Competition.
- All submitted videos are permitted to have some or all the following: royalty or license free music, captions, and overlaying text applied.
- If submitting a video with either royalty or license free music, captions, and or overlaying text applied, then a ‘clean’ version of the same video must also be submitted without these elements.
- BHF reserve the right to edit and/or amend any ‘clean’ version of a submitted video. Any edits and/or amendments made during or after the Competition will be done with the permission of the entrant.
- Each entrant accepts that they are responsible and liable for ensuring that any submitted videos which display an identifiable person or persons have been taken with the permission of the person or persons featured.
