Our medical records hold information that can help researchers make vital new life saving discoveries. Researchers use patient data in a number of ways, from finding common factors across a large number of people that can help predict disease, to finding people that could be asked to take part in a research study.
In order to unlock the full potential of this data we need a system of data access which protects patient privacy while also enabling cutting edge research.
We are continuing to work with the Government, our researchers and heart patients to ensure that this is the case.
We also know that more could be done to explain the benefits of sharing data, and recently contributed to work by the Association of Medical Research Charities to illustrate how health information is helping to save and improve lives.
