Innovative heart health programme launched by the BHF and PureGym
We have teamed up with PureGym to unveil a new programme to help improve the nation’s heart health.
The innovative Healthy Hearts Programme, released in July, is designed to improve cardiovascular health, build strength and promote overall well-being is now available as part of the PureGym app.
Free to access for both members and non-members, the eight-week progressive programme supports users who want to pursue a heart healthy lifestyle. It guides users through exercises, recipes and resources created by PureGym’s health and fitness professionals and our cardiac specialists.
The programme, which has been through a rigorous testing process including a trial of over 20,000 people, offers:
- Tailored training plans created by PureGym’s fitness experts, which include a combination of strength training, cardio workouts and yoga routines. The workouts require minimal equipment and can be completed either in the gym or at home.
- The programme’s features make the work outs suitable for everyone – those new to exercise, have health considerations or simply want to take more steps to improve their heart health.
- Tasty heart healthy recipes created by our dietitians which include breakfasts, snacks and main meals such as Huevos Rancheros and lentil dhal.
- Information and support written by our cardiac nurses and dietitians to help people take control of their heart health, for example blood pressure management.
Rebecca Passmore, UK Managing Director at PureGym said: “Exercising and leading a healthy lifestyle plays a crucial role in maintaining heart health so we’re very excited about the launch of our Healthy Hearts Programme. By using our expertise, combined with the invaluable medical information on the heart provided to us by the BHF, we want to support and educate the public on how to implement a heart healthy lifestyle.
"Accessibility is key and that’s why we want to make sure everyone, both PureGym members and non-members, have access to relevant health information, no matter their fitness journey.”
Working together in our mission to tackle the UK’s heart health, we joined forces with PureGym in February last year as part of a multi-million-pound charity partnership.
Since then, we have worked together on a number of activities and products all aimed at tackling heart and circulatory diseases – the leading cause of global deaths and currently affect the lives of 7.6 million people and their families in the UK.
Alison Mitchell, Head of Corporate Partnerships here at the British Heart Foundation said: “Heart and circulatory diseases and their risk factors, have a significant impact on the nation's health. It is important we work together to find new ways to encourage people to lead healthier lives.
“This programme is a wonderful product of our partnership with PureGym. We’ve pooled our expert resources to create a hugely useful, free tool that we hope will benefit many people across the UK by helping them to make some easy lifestyle changes that will reduce your risk of developing heart and circulatory diseases.”
The Healthy Hearts programme launched on the 3rd July via the PureGym app.
