As the seasons change, schools return, and we introduce a new Prime Minister, September is a time to welcome fresh starts. This autumn, we are encouraging people everywhere to take on our Declutter challenge by donating preloved items and help fund lifesaving research.
We want people to use this time of year to give their homes a good clear out and donate any unwanted quality items. Donating to the us is free and easy: simply drop items to your local shop, book a collection online or post them using a freepost label.
The Declutter challenge is being supported by professional declutterer Kate Ibbotson.
"September is often a reflective time of year, looking back at the summer with fond memories. But it is also a month of a welcome change, an opportunity to reset and look ahead for the rest of the year”, said Kate.
"We’re swapping our summer clothes for a cosy winter wardrobe and sorting through any clutter that might have gathered over the sunnier months."
Kate recommends setting yourself a plan of action and focusing on contained spaces instead of the entire house. “Attempting to declutter your entire home can be daunting so start with bitesize chunks like a wardrobe or shelf. Ask yourself, do I need this, do I own something similar, is it fit for purpose, and can someone else make better use of it? That’s the magic of decluttering!”
Allison Swaine-Hughes, Retail Director, said: “Why wait till January to declutter? This month we want everyone to have a good clear out of their homes and donate those quality preloved items to the BHF that deserve a second home. Charity shops are the perfect sustainable solution for decluttering and the BHF saves over 57,000 tonnes of goods from going to waste. What’s more, all the money raised helps us fund lifesaving research into heart and circulatory diseases.
“Donating to us couldn’t be easier. You can drop your donations into any of our 700 shops, post your items using a free downloadable label, or for bigger items like furniture, you can book a free collection.”
