Fashion forward fascinators
Fascinator styling and inspiration by Michelle White
When I was a little girl, my mum returned from work and I remember she smelt fantastic. At just 10 or 11 years old, I helped myself to this incredible smelling perfume, only to spill the entire bottle. And it wasn’t just any old fragrance; it was pure Chanel No.5. The house smelled of it for weeks, but my mum found it hilarious… Eventually
I’ll admit I’ve always have a taste for nice things in life. Shoes, clothes, perfume… because they make us feel good, something I’ve always wanted to pass onto others.
Fast forward a good few years and my life would be changed forever.
At the age of 26, I was diagnosed with heart failure and would undergo my first open heart surgery not long after, with seven more to follow in the years to come. From there my lungs would collapse, my kidneys would fail, I would have a stroke, be placed on life support, have a Hickman line fitted and, the light amongst it all, give birth to a miracle baby boy.
It’s said that everything happens for a reason, which is really hard to believe when you’re going through one of the hardest times of your life. But if I hadn’t gone through all of that, I wouldn’t have the insight that I do today.
Over the years I had to learn to love my body all over again. Scars from surgery, tubes, body changes from birth… you name it, I had to learn to live with it. On top of that, I had to learn to style myself in clothes that would make me feel fantastic again.
Personal styling was something I had always wanted to do. But finally, on my 40th birthday, I decided that I had been held back for long enough, and that now was the time to take what I had learned and help other women going through a similar journey.
