Hangers for Hearts

We’re partnering with hotels to collect preloved clothing to fund our lifesaving research. In 3 easy steps, you can leave unwanted clothing on our BHF hangers, and we will do the rest.

About the initiative

Hangers for Hearts is an exciting new initiative launched by BHF in partnership with hotels and accommodation agencies, to raise vital donations to help fund research into cardiovascular disease.

Our network of over 400 shops rely on clothing donations, to be able to sell them and turn them into funding for research. This helps BHF save and improve lives while offering people a sustainable way to dispose of clothing they no longer want.

Hearts for Hangers provides people with a way to close the loop on fashion waste and give their old clothes a new lease of life, ready to be loved again.

How does it work?

1. Donate your item

You’ll have noticed the BHF hanger inside your wardrobe. This bespoke hanger is where you can place an item of clothing you either no longer need, or feel could be loved a little bit more by somebody else. Or you might have more than 1 version of an item, so are able to give this 1 away. Whatever the reason, BHF has provided an opportunity to make the option of donating as convenient as possible.

Simply place the item you would like to donate on the Hanger for Hearts and leave it there, ready for housekeeping to collect.

2. Collection

Once you have left your item, the housekeeping team, staff and BHF teams will arrange a collection from your hotel or short-stay accommodation, to pick up the donations made by guests.

The van drivers will drop these donations off to the local BHF store, where the items will be sorted and priced up by our incredible shop volunteers and staff.

3. Turning items into funds

When your donated items are ready to be sold, the money we make will help fund breakthrough research carried out by our scientists and researchers. Every donation helps in aiding our vision to create a world free from the fear of heart disease.

Helpful tips for donating your items

Our shops and stores need great quality items to help increase the funds being raised for research. Here are some hints and tips on how to make sure your item is the best quality and will make the most impact.

STEP 1

Check your item for rips and tears

If your item has any holes or damage, we won’t be able to sell it. If items are damaged, we'll need to recycle them responsibly, instead of selling them on our shop floors.

STEP 2

Make sure items are clean

Items that are free from marks and stains will ensure they look the best they can when they arrive at our stores, and can be sold on the shop floor.

STEP 3

Donate any unwanted accessories

We don’t just accept clothing on the hanger. If you have any accessories that you no longer want, which fit on the hanger, please do leave them as well.
