Fundraising ideas for sports clubs

Your sports club has the power to make a real difference for people living with heart and circulatory diseases. From sporty challenges to casual events, we've got plenty of fundraising ideas to get your team scoring big for BHF.

Marathon challenge

Set your sports club an ambitious challenge. For example, can your football club keep the ball moving for 24 hours? Can your swimming club manage 1,000 laps, with people donating a certain amount for every lap?

You could also try out a different sport. From Zumbathons to cricket marathons, all that matters is having fun and raising money for a worthy cause.

Charity tournament

Charity tournaments are a popular fundraising idea for sports clubs. They also work well for many types of sport, such as football, netball, golf and tennis - to name a few.

While our guide on how to organise a charity 5-a-side tournament is specific to football, many of the steps will apply for other sports too. Just choose your date, set your schedule and let the games begin!

Play your own sport

Do whatever your sports club usually does, but this time for BHF. For instance, a running club in Scotland raised over £1,000 by asking everyone to wear red and make a donation for their usual 5k or 10k run. Sometimes simple fundraising ideas can work wonders!

Sports day

Stir up some nostalgia and satisfy your inner child by putting on a sports day for charity. You could hold classic events such as the 3-legged race, egg and spoon, tug-of-war, wheelbarrow race, and more.
Ask for donations to enter each competition, and consider adding extra events to boost fundraising even more. For example, a barbecue or charity raffle.

Championship watch party

Host a party where you watch the final of a big sports competition with your sports club. Everyone pays a donation to attend. You could also host betting games on the outcome, game stats and other elements of the game.

Quiz night

Looking for a quick and cheap fundraising idea for your sports club? Organising a quiz night might be the answer.

Don’t feel the need to stick to questions on your team’s sport – you could have rounds on sports in general, or on anything from film and TV to current affairs. If you’re wondering where to start, read our guide on how to plan a quiz night.

Charity skydive

For an adrenaline-fuelled fundraising idea, why not take to the skies? Skydiving is a fantastic way to do something unforgettable while bonding with your team and raising money for lifesaving research.

To raise as much as possible, you could ask people to donate a certain amount for every team member who goes through with the jump!
