Put your mountain bike skills to the test and take on the tough climbs, mud and rocky terrain of our most technical Off-Road Bike Ride – sure to challenge even the most experienced riders!
Whilst it won't be easy we can guarantee it'll be worth it. With the adrenaline pumping through your veins as you cycle against a backdrop of panoramic views across the beautiful Peak District, aiming for an unrivalled sense of achievement at the finish line - this is a unique adventure that's not to be missed in 2019.

Due to the technical nature of this ride there is an age restriction of 18 years and over.
This event has a strict capacity of 500 riders and registration will close when this is reached. The event always sells out so we strongly encourage anyone wishing to take part to sign up now in order to avoid disappointment.
There are two routes to choose from - 37 or 69km.
Your entry fee covers the cost of organising the event but it's the money you raise that powers our life saving research, we are therefore asking all participants at this year's event to try and raise at least £100.

At the end of 2018, we were incredibly proud that this ride was voted event of the year by the members of Peak District MTB.
It's an incredible privilege for us to receive such an accolade from such a large organisation who are doing so much important work in one of the U.K's best spots for mountain biking, and we would like to thank their members.
It's also a testament of the work we're doing on our Off-Road events, trying to offer you the unforgettable & enjoyable mountain bike days out that our participants are looking for.

The event car park at Hope College will have limited spaces available Please consider lift sharing as well as the local pay and display car parks in Hope where possible.
Completely planned, organised and managed by the British Heart Foundation, this event exists in order to raise funds for our life saving research. This year we are asking you all to try and raise at least £100 to make a difference.
Creating an online fundraising page is the easiest way to raise money. It takes a few minutes to set up and a link can then be easily shared with your friends and family on social media and by email. Remember, you're taking part in an amazing challenge - people will want to support you.

This is a difficult ride and it's therefore essential that you're sufficiently prepared for the day and our Off-Road Bike Ride preparation zone is here to help.

At the Peak District Mountain Bike Challenge

You can start the ride at any time between 7:30 and 9:30. There will be a short safety briefing before you depart.
Each rest stop will have a cut off time that you must try to make. If you fall behind these cut off times our helpful team of marshals and our ride support team will advise you of your options.

*These are the 2018 event route maps and are consequently subject to changes. We are not anticipating any major amendments to the routes, but please keep an eye on this page for any updates.
Both routes kick off with a brutal climb up the natural phenomenon that is Mam Tor - a tough start but you'll be rewarded with a rough rocky descent of Pin Dale once reaching the summit. You'll then spin past the mine works, to the foot of the imposing Shatton Moor, which is your next leg burning challenge. Only a few will pedal the whole way up - can you? This will be followed by a long descent down the far side that will probably see the fastest speeds of the day, before country lanes bring you to the first and much welcomed refreshment stop at the valley bottom.
A good off-road cycle path warms the legs back up as it skirts the scenic Ladybower reservoir before the climbing starts again, heading up the wooded hillside, on permissive paths, to Wooler Knoll before dropping down the rock infested track back to Hope. This is where riders taking on the longer route will peel off to follow the old Roman Road, weaving along a rutted track with spectacular views, before facing a tough technical climb to Hope Cross that will be followed by a long rocky descent down potato alley, which will have brakes steaming and forearms pumped by the bottom. You won’t need the brakes after crossing the A57 however, as it’s a big lung up Rowlee, that will allow them to cool, ready for the fast and furious Lockerbrook descent - be aware here lies roots and rocks keen to get in your way and throw you from your bike.
At the bottom there is a chance to relax, but not rest, as a fast spin on the tarmac around the peaceful Howden reservoir, the northernmost point follows, before heading back off-road on the other side of the reservoir, to the much welcomed refreshments at Fairholmes café. With caffeine and snack levels replenished the steep Hagg Side climb awaits; keep something in reserve for after the smooth, steep start as you’ll need some strength for the rocky finale. Soak in the views (and oxygen) as you traverse the ridgetop, as the most technical descent of the day awaits, Hagg farm; a superb rocky hairpin trail that will challenge the best of riders. It’s now a smooth cruise along the reservoir before scaling the hillside to Wooler Knoll once again. At least you know what's in store this time. And this time you get to continue down to the very bottom of the rocky descent, back to Hope, to finally finish this monster ride.
Refreshments & Facilities
Food and drink will be available to purchase at the start/finish and at some of the rest stops. There will also be complimentary snacks, TORQ products and water at all rest stops. Please make sure you bring cash with you on the day.
Toilets will be available at the start, finish and at rest stops along the route.
What support can I expect?
You will be fully supported at this event with an experienced medical team, marshals and a fully signed route. Support vehicles will also be available to collect you and your bike from our rest stops should you find you are unable to complete the challenge.
Mobile bike mechanics will ae available along the route and will be stationed at our rest stops. We would recommend you bring a puncture repair kit and some spare inner tubes as in some instances, it may be quicker for you to deal with small punctures yourself. Our mechanics will check your bikes over and fix small repairs for free, but if any extra parts are needed you will have to pay.
Massage therapists will be waiting for you at the finish line and will tend to any aching legs. All riders are welcome to a complimentary massage, please bear in mind you may have to wait during busy finish times.
Dogs are welcome at the finish site, but must be well behaved and/or kept on a lead during busy periods of the day and near the finish gantry.
We encourage all friends and family to come down and cheer you on. There will be lots of things to keep the entertained at the finish site, and we will be updating our website and Facebook page with more details closer to the event.

For teams to be eligible there must be at least £500 or more (excluding Gift Aid) pledged per person, along with the names of all eligible entrants showing on the team fundraising page and each individual needs to fill in a separate form in each case to claim the 500 club jersey.
(E.g A team of 4 would need a minimum of £2000 (exc Gift Aid) pledged on their team page)
