Take on the London to Brighton Bike Ride for the ride of your life. Whether you're looking to take on your first cycle challenge, or enjoy a great team experience, or even take part in an iconic cycle event, the London to Brighton Bike Ride has something for everyone.

The BHF's London to Brighton Bike Ride has run for over 40 years, and has built up fantastic support along the 54-mile route, with local communities cheering on our riders and offering refreshments all the way to Brighton, helping you power over the finish line.

Leave the buzz of the busy London streets behind and enjoy the stunning Surrey and Sussex countryside before hitting the Brighton Beach for an amazing after party. Celebrating with fellow riders, family and friends, not only the challenge, but also the money you'll have raised to help us fund more life saving research.

The start

Getting to the start

Train travel

On the day of the bike ride, Southern Railway and First Capital Connect will not be accepting bikes. Make sure you think ahead and plan your travel arrangements well in advance.

Our coach service

We'll be offering a coach service to drop you off at the start or pick you up from the finish line. Tickets cost £27 each and you can book them through our online shop.

Coaches will run as and when they're full so you won't need to book onto a particular service - this also means you don't need to wait for your start time to arrange your travel. 

Before the bike ride

Services to Clapham Common, London leave from Madeira Drive, Brighton between 04.30 and 06.30

After the bike ride

Services to Clapham Common, London leave from Hove Lawns, Brighton between 12.00 and 19.30 

You'll travel separately from your bike and bubble wrap will be available for you to pack your bike.

Riders aged 14 – 17 years old

The bike ride is a family event so we welcome riders aged 14 and above. You'll need to have consent from your parent or guardian to take part in the ride, which is part of the registration process.

Start times

So you can have the most enjoyable experience, you'll set off at your pre-allocated start time based on your cycling ability. If you're riding with a team, don't worry, we'll make sure you're allocated the same start time as your team mates.

This year we've also limited the number of riders on the route to reduce congestion so you really can coast to the coast.

At the start

Arrive no earlier than 30 minutes before your allocated start time. Please make sure your rider number is clearly visible, as you won’t be able to start the ride without it.

Your rider number and start time will be sent to you closer to the time of the event. 

At the start you'll also find, toilets, refreshment stands and a merchandise tent where you can buy our exclusive London to Brighton 2016 merchandise:

  • T-shirt  - £15.00
  • Hoodie - £20.00

The route

There will be marshals, first aid and mechanical support along the route. There will also be rest stops with toilets and refreshments.

You'll be given a route card on the day, which highlights the route you will be riding. The 54 mile route is on a road and quite hilly.

At the finish

There will be entertainment to welcome you to the finish line. Toilets will be available and there will be food and drink on sale. You will also be able to purchase the London to Brighton 2016 merchandise.

Your rider number and start time

We will send you your rider number and start time closer to the event. We'll allocate start times depending on your experience and expected finish time. You cannot amend your start time.

Starting a team

There is no better way to enjoy our London to Brighton event, than with a team. It's great fun and you and your team can help each other reach that finish line.

Joining a team

If you would like to join an existing team, then all you need to do is ask your team captain to send you the link that they will have received when they registered. This will ensure that you all have the same start time and we’ll be able to tell you how much your team raised once you've completed your challenge.
