Covid-19 disruption extensions to PhD studentships
To support our bright young scientists towards successful completion of their PhD projects, we offered studentship extensions of up to six months depending on the year of study.
Supporting leaders of the future
At the BHF, we are dedicated to supporting cardiovascular researchers at all stages of their career, including young scientists at the beginning of their journey. We are proud to fund over 100 3-year PhD studentships and over 160 4-year PhD studentships at 34 Universities across the UK currently.
PhD studentship extensions
After consultation with the BHF research community, it became clear that PhD students in their penultimate or final year of study were the hardest hit by the Covid-19 disruption, with greater impact on the former at a critical stage of their research projects.
To support future research leaders at this challenging time, we offered, where required:
- Studentship extensions of up to six months to PhD students in their penultimate year of study.
- Studentship extensions of up to three months to PhD students in their final year of study.
We contacted Universities directly regarding studentship extensions. This included stipend costs only and was available to all eligible PhD students, funded directly by the BHF through either individual 3-year studentships or 4-year programmes.
