Frequently asked questions about working for the BHF

How do I apply?

All applications must be completed by our online application system.

For office and home-based roles, our application process involves submitting a CV and covering letter. The process should take about 10 minutes.

For roles in our retails shops and stores, the application process involves filling in your contact details, attaching your CV and an optional covering letter. You will also bee required to complete a Situational Judgment Assessment. You will be given more information regarding the Assessment when you reach that stage. The whole process will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. If you receive an error message on your computer please clear cookies and try again.

What format do my CV and covering letter need to be in?

Your CV and covering letter should be in Word, PDF or Rich Text format in order to upload it.

What should I include in my covering letter?

When writing your covering letter, you should consider our values and cause and try to demonstrate these as well as the skills and experience you can bring to the role.

Who can help me with my application?

Why are there no closing dates on retails vacancies?

Due to the urgent business need to fill our shop & store positions, we don’t have closing dates on our adverts. We will remove the advert once we fill the role. To avoid disappointment please apply as soon as you see the advertisement.

How do I know you have received my application?

We will acknowledge receipt of every application, depending on your email settings this may go to your junk/spam mail. If you don’t receive an email we haven’t received your application. 

When will I hear the outcome of my application?

We aim to inform all candidates of the outcome of their application within 28 days of the closing date. However, there are occasions where the volume of applications means the shortlisting process can take longer than expected.

How will I find out if my application has been successful?

We will communicate with you via the email address or telephone to keep you up to date about your application. If you don’t hear from us via email, please check your junk email.

Where is the BHF based?

Our Head Office is in London. We also have offices in Claygate, Birmingham, Northampton, Leeds, Edinburgh, Cardiff & Belfast. We have over 730 shops & stores across the UK.

Where will my interview be?

If you are invited to interview you will receive an email confirming the interview location and address.

What shall I wear to my interview?

We would always recommend that you wear smart office wear for your interview, however don’t feel you have to wear a suit if you are not comfortable doing so.

How can I prepare for my interview?

Please ensure you have had a thorough read through the Job Description and your CV and cover letter application. Think of examples from your work or personal experience where you have demonstrated the competencies, skills and experience we are looking for. Also research the BHF to understand what we do and why you want to join our fight.

Do you pay interview travel expenses?

Unfortunately we are not able to contribute to candidate travel expenses so please bear this in mind prior to booking your interview.

How can I get feedback on my interview?

I didn't get shortlisted, can I get feedback?

Unfortunately we are unable to give individual feedback to applicants unsuccessful at the application stage due to the large amount of applications we receive.

When will you contact my referees for a reference?

We will only contact your referees after an offer has been made and you have given us permission to do so.

How can I get notifications of new vacancies?

You can register for job alerts for positions in our shops and stores, or for home or office based roles.

How can I intern at the BHF?

Our internships are advertised on our Job Page along with our paid vacancies and the application process is the same.

How can I volunteer for the BHF?

What is your policy on animal testing?

We are dedicated to saving lives by funding research to develop better tests, treatments and cures for heart and circulatory conditions.

Where there are no feasible alternatives, we fund research involving animals as part of a broad spectrum of science that ranges from laboratory studies to clinical trials in patient volunteers.
