Through our commitment to beating heartbreak from all heart and circulatory diseases and their risk factors, we currently support over £460m of lifesaving research across 46 institutions in the UK to better understand, prevent, and treat heart and circulatory diseases.

We support the work of over 1,200 research staff across the UK, including salaried research staff on BHF awards or award holders that are early career scientists through to BHF Professors.

Clinical trials

We fund clinical trials that aim to improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment across a range of heart and circulatory conditions, as well as trials that aim to prevent or treat heart and circulatory diseases in conditions that increase their risk, such as diabetes and chronic kidney disease. We are currently supporting 41 clinical trials worth around £36m.
