We currently support over £430m of research projects across 47 institutions in the UK to better understand, prevent and treat heart and circulatory diseases.
Over 50% of our current research portfolio fit within conditions listed below. The rest are focused on conditions not listed and encompass broad research areas or support multiple projects (Accelerator awards, BHF Professors, BHF Centres of Research Excellence, Infrastructure grants and Strategic initiatives).

We are currently supporting 46 clinical trials worth around £40m. They provide crucial evidence that diagnostic tests or treatments are safe and effective.
Clinical trials
We fund clinical trials that aim to improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment across a range of heart and circulatory conditions, as well as trials that aim to prevent or treat heart and circulatory diseases in conditions that increase their risk, such as diabetes and chronic kidney disease. We are currently supporting 41 clinical trials worth around £36m.
