The BHF is honoured to appoint His Majesty the King as our Royal Patron.

His Majesty's appointment, which began in May 2024, continues the long and cherished relationship between the Royal Family and the BHF. It also reflects our heritage, with over 60 years spent funding groundbreaking cardiovascular research to save and improve lives.

The appointment of His Majesty as our Royal Patron shows a shared commitment to improving heart health for all. We look forward to his support as we continue to make progress on our mission to help save and improve the lives of millions of people with heart and circulatory conditions.

As well as highlighting the importance of cardiovascular health, this patronage honours the legacy of Prince Philip's dedicated service to our cause. Prince Philip was our Royal Patron for over 60 years until his death in 2021.

During his six decades as our Royal Patron, Prince Philip helped to shine a light on the need to fund heart and circulatory disease research. Prince Philip was a passionate supporter of our work, advocating for the creation of nine of our funded centres of excellence in the 1970s. He also opened a cutting-edge medical research centre at the University of Edinburgh in 2010.

We are incredibly grateful for the time and energy Prince Philip dedicated to our cause, and we are proud and excited to work with His Majesty going forwards.
