After consultation with Event Water Safety, which provides the lifeguard and safety cover for this event, it has been confirmed that latest wind and weather forecast will cause challenging swim conditions.
The safety of our swimmers is our top priority
Sarah Choudhry, our Director of Innovation and Events, said: “We’re sad to announce that we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel the 2025 Bournemouth Pier to Pier Swim, originally scheduled for Saturday 5 July, due to the latest wind and weather forecast. After consulting with our Water Safety and Operations teams, it’s clear that the forecasted conditions would make for a challenging and unsafe swim. We know this will be disappointing for many, but the safety of our swimmers is our top priority.“We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who signed up, trained, and fundraised for this year’s event. Your dedication supports helps us fund life-saving research into heart and circulatory diseases. All registered participants will have their entry automatically transferred to next year’s event. Unfavourable weather conditions
Llyr Faragher, Event Water Safety Director, said: "As of Friday (4th July) the weather forecast for Saturday 5th July is unfavourable due to latest wind, swell and tide forecasts which will cause challenging swim conditions. The weather forecast is currently showing strong south westerly wind and gusts. The wind will be blowing onto the shore and making conditions in the sea choppy.
“This will be exacerbated by the wind over tide effect, making swimming more difficult. The low pressure will produce waves and the surf will increase in height as the day goes on, making it difficult to swim and take a clean breath of air and reduce the ability of Lifeguards on Rescue Boards to watch and monitor swimmers in the sea.
“We are therefore in a position where we do not feel we could guarantee the safety of participants at this weekend’s BHF Bournemouth Pier to Pier swim and are left with no choice but to reschedule the event. Safety has to be our number one priority.”
Next steps
We would like to thank everyone who has signed up to the event this year and for their continued support. We will be working to contact all registered participants over the next 24 hours to inform them of this news.
We will defer all our participants to our 2026 date, Saturday 27 June. We hope to see as many as possible back in 2026.
All participants will receive guidance on how to either refund or transfer any funds already raised ahead of the 2025 event.
If this doesn’t work for participants, please contact our Customer Service Centre on WhatsApp 07581 016 513, Phone 0300 330 3322 or email [email protected] who can assist on processing a refund.
