Reasons close to his heart
The 33-year-old and his wife, Andriani (Drou), joined forces with the BHF last year, after their daughter Siena, six, required open heart surgery to fix a hole in her heart, caused by a congenital heart defect. Inspired by Siena’s battle, Jack is now determined to raise awareness and money for the BHF. Jack said: “It’s been amazing to see everyone come together to support my family and the British Heart Foundation today, it really does mean so much to Drou, Siena and me.
“I’m looking forward to taking on the TCS London Marathon. Knowing Siena will be waiting for me at the finish line is what is going to help me get round the course. We call her our heart warrior.
"The bravery and strength she’s shown throughout her heart journey has been incredible, and we are just so proud of her."
On Sunday 27 April Jack will be joining over 750 BHF runners pounding the pavements of London to raise funds for our lifesaving research into treatments and cures for heart and circulatory diseases - the day after his first game as Norwich’s interim manager.
The evening was hosted by Talk Sport Drive Times’ Andy Goldstein, who broadcasted live from The Grove.
The presenter quipped: “It’s been great for Talk Sport to come down and support Jack and the BHF today. “Whilst it’s been impressive listening to everyone gloat about their golf handicaps, the really impressive thing has obviously been all the hard work that’s gone into organising the day for such a fantastic cause – and in all seriousness, taking on the London Marathon is a great effort from Jack. We’re all wishing Jack all the best for Sunday.”
Teresa Hicks, Director of Fundraising at the BHF, said: “We’re honoured to have Jack and his family's support. Siena’s story shows heart disease doesn’t discriminate; it can affect anyone at any age. The funds raised today will help to accelerate the BHF’s pioneering research into heart and circulatory diseases.
"Turning discoveries into lifesaving medical advances that can help families just like theirs and yours and means more children like Siena can go on to live happier healthier lives. “
