The PIF TICK, run by the Patient Information Forum, is the only assessed quality mark for print and online trusted health information in the UK.
To gain the PIF TICK, members must show they meet 10 key steps, including health information is evidence-based, jargon-free, and easy to use and understand.
The mark of the PIF TICK recognises us as a trusted source of health information for the 7.6 million people living with heart and circulatory diseases across the UK and their loved ones.
From explanations of complicated medical terms to expert nutrition and lifestyle guidance, we aim to provide a one-stop-shop of heart health information.
When the pandemic began, reliable and accurate health information was never more needed. In the last 12 months, the Information Support section of our website has had 18.6 million users and over 29 million unique pageviews – a record year of traffic.
This shows how crucial it is for us to provide clarity and support for people living with heart and circulatory conditions throughout the pandemic and beyond.
Information you can trust
Amy Corkery, our Patient and Professional Information Editor, said: “We’re delighted that our health information has been awarded the PIF TICK – a testament to the quality of our extensive library of content.“With misinformation rife online, it’s critical that people with heart and circulatory diseases and their loved ones can easily access reliable and accurate information in their moment of need, and this has never been truer than during the pandemic.
“This quality mark is a quick and easy way to assure people that our health information is trustworthy, ensuring it can be a lifeline of support for them in uncertain times.”
Patient Information Forum began the PIF TICK scheme in 2020, launching a website the following year to raise awareness of PIF TICK accredited members and help people find trusted health information.
The site also includes guides on topics including spotting false health information and understanding evidence.
PIF TICK manager Dan Wills said: “We are thrilled to welcome the BHF to our ever-growing community of accredited PIF TICK members. Accurate, accessible, evidence-based information is key to increasing patient empowerment and improving health outcomes.”
