A Tesco fundraising appeal has raised £1 million for our life saving work in just two weeks.
Through its Health Charity Partnership Appeal, Tesco asked its customers to round up their shopping bill to the nearest £1 to support the vital work of the British Heart Foundation, Cancer Research UK, and Diabetes UK.
Over the 13-day in-store appeal, customer donations amounted to nearly £1.5 million, with Tesco matching contributions to bring the total charity donation to £3 million. All funds will go directly to the three charities and be split equally.
The support shown from Tesco and its customers at this critical time will help us continue our vital work to save and improve lives.
Commenting on the total raised, our Director of Fundraising, Amanda Bringans, said: “We have been amazed by the incredible generosity of Tesco customers. The Covid-19 pandemic means we face an agonising drop in our income, meaning every penny donated will be vital to us continuing to fund life saving research into new ways of preventing, diagnosing and treating heart and circulatory diseases. Thank you to each and every person who donated.”
Millions of pounds for research programmes
Oonagh Turnbull, Head of Health Campaigns at Tesco, said: “We are really delighted that our customers have been so generous in supporting these three very deserving charities. This has been an incredibly tough year for many so far and hopefully this donation of £3 million will help those directly affected by cancer, heart and circulatory diseases or diabetes.”
The appeal is part of the long-term partnership the three charities have with Tesco. Through the partnership the four organisations are working together to help Tesco’s 300,000 UK colleagues, and millions of UK shoppers, adopt healthier lifestyle and shopping habits, and raise millions of pounds a year for a range of prevention and research programmes.
