TV Presenter and campaigner, June Sarpong has given her new home a sustainable touch by furnishing it with preloved items from a British Heart Foundation (BHF) store.
June visited her nearest BHF home store with interior designer and warrior on waste, Lynne Lambourne, who helped her spot hidden treasures and offered upcycling inspiration.
Together they found several preloved pieces to furnish June’s new pad including a contemporary armchair for £40, a vintage cabinet display for £40 and unique lighting from £20. They also found a solid wood dining table for £60, which they revamped with a touch of paint.
June got behind the preloved movement to champion the amazing looks that can be achieved with second-hand items and upcycled furniture. She hopes that her support will inspire others to use their purchases to raise money for charity and help the environment.
Last year, our home stores reused and recycled over 42,000 tonnes of furniture and electrical products. This included saving 130,000 sofas and 50,000 TVs from going to waste, which helped prevent 53,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions being released into the atmosphere.
With June’s support, we want to encourage interior enthusiasts and home movers to give their home a style update by visiting one of our 190 home stores across the UK in search of furniture and homewares.
June Sarpong, TV Presenter and Campaigner, said: “When it comes to decorating your home, I think the way forward is upcycling and going to your local charity shop to find unique gems which no one else has. I’ve picked up a great chair, which unbelievably, was just £40.
“By making a conscious effort to furnish ours homes more sustainably with items bought from charities such as the BHF, we can all help save items from landfill and support vital charity work.”
Allison-Swaine Hughes, our Retail Director said: “These BHF pieces look incredible in June’s stylish new home. She has truly shown that our home stores are the perfect sustainable solution when it comes to furnishing your home to suit your personal taste.
“Like June, we believe those wanting to make their home more sustainable and achieve their own unique look, will be amazed at the preloved items available at their local BHF store. Our shops give thousands of household items a new lease of life, preventing unnecessary waste and carbon emissions being release into the atmosphere, whilst raising vital funds for life-saving research. They really are a win-win situation for shoppers, the environment and for funding breakthroughs for those suffering from heart and circulatory diseases across the UK.”
Turning reuse into breakthroughs, last year our shops and stores raised almost £30 million to fund research into new treatments for conditions including heart disease, stroke and vascular dementia.
We want to raise awareness that our stores are a sustainable option for all shoppers looking to purchase affordable items for their home – whilst not compromising on quality or style.
Improving your environmental impact doesn’t have to break the bank. Our stores offer furniture, electricals and homewares on a budget, with sofas from £95, beds from £65 and wardrobes from £40.
By shopping for your furniture and homewares at your local BHF home store you can help the BHF save more items from landfill and help save lives.
