Cross-Party Group Inquiry into the implementation of the Heart Disease Action Plan
The Cross-Party Group (CPG) on Heart and Circulatory Diseases in the Scottish Parliament held an inquiry into the implementation of the Heart Disease Action Plan in Scotland. The inquiry launched in September 2023 and gathered information from people with clinical interest and professionals in the field.
The Inquiry Report - Implementation of the Heart Disease Action Plan
All of the information gathered throughout the inquiry was used to compile the Inquiry into the implementation of the Heart Disease Action Plan Report.
This report was formally launched on Tuesday 4th June 2024 and a celebration event was held in the Scottish Parliament that evening to thank those who contributed to the inquiry. The Minister for Public Health and Women's Health Jenni Minto was also present at the meeting.
BHF Scotland will now be seeking to work collaboratively with the Scottish Government and other partners to implement the recommendations of the report.
What is the Heart Disease Action Plan?
The Heart Disease Action Plan was published by the Scottish Government in 2021 with the vision to minimise preventable heart disease and ensure that everyone with suspected heart disease in Scotland has timely and equitable access to diagnosis, treatment and care that supports them in living well with their condition.
What did the Inquiry cover?
The inquiry looked into the implementation of the Heart Disease Action Plan. Over three sessions, the inquiry assessed the progress made within the four priorities of the Heart Disease Action Plan:
- Prevention - tackling risk factors
- Timely and equitable access to diagnosis, treatment and care
- Workforce
- Effective use of data
The inquiry took evidence through a survey of CPG members, made up of a group of MSPs, clinicians, policy staff and people with experience of heart and circulatory disease, who highlighted areas of progress and concern.
This was then followed by three meetings of the CPG that took evidence from a range of clinical, public and third sector stakeholders.
