The cardiac ganglionic plexus and control of cardiac performance
Dr Kieran Brack (lead researcher)
University of Leicester
Start date: 01 April 2012 (Duration 4 years)
Significance of intrinsic cardiac ganglia in the control of cardiac performance in health and disease
The cardiac ganglionic plexus (CGP) is a branching network of nerves associated with the heart and specifically the regulation of the heartbeat. Dr Kieran Brack from the University of Leicester will study how the CGP affects cardiac function and how its modulation may help in disease states such as ischaemia and long QT syndrome. This study will further scientific knowledge of cardiac autonomic control and may reveal new therapeutic targets in cardiac disease.
