How chemical changes in proteins affect the heart
Dr William Fuller (lead researcher)
University of Dundee
Start date: 01 August 2013 (Duration 3 years)
Interaction between palmitoylation and glutathionylation in the regulation of cardiac function
The way in which proteins in the heart work can be altered by simple chemical changes to their composition. Stresses on the heart following a heart attack and occasionally treatment for a heart attack can lead to these chemical changes in proteins. Dr William Fuller at the University of Dundee will study two types of chemical changes, known as palmitoylation and glutathionylation. He will investigate how these specific chemical changes arise and how they alter the way the whole heart operates.
