Accelerator Award (round 1) - University of Bristol
BHF-funded research is behind many of the advances that are helping people with heart and circulatory diseases to live longer, better lives. By investing in research we are supporting scientists to make potentially life-saving discoveries, which could help us beat the heartbreak of heart and circulatory diseases, both in the UK and worldwide. But finding the answers to complex questions and challenges in heart and circulatory disease research can take more than a one-off project. The BHF Accelerator Awards will encourage pioneering research of the highest calibre, potentially supporting applications for Research Excellence Awards in the future. The aim of these awards is to support universities to develop their heart and circulatory disease research programmes to their full potential. This flexible funding will enable these institutions to take the next step towards internationally recognised research excellence. At the University of Bristol, Professor Deborah Lawlor will lead a team of researchers investigating two different areas of heart and circulatory disease research. The first aims to identify ways to slow the progression of heart and circulatory diseases, whilst the second aims to improve our understanding of how heart and circulatory diseases can develop across a life span.
