Poached pears with ginger

This easy dessert is low in fat - try it in autumn when pears are at their best. It can also be a good way to use pears that are slightly under-ripe.

Preparation time: 5 minutes

Cooking time: 20 minutes

  1. Squeeze the juice from the orange and lemon.
  2. Strain and put in a saucepan with the ginger and 4 tablespoons water.
  3. Add the pears. Bring to the boil, cover and simmer for 15-20 minutes, turning occasionally. Arrange the pears in a serving dish.
  4. Stir a little honey into the orange and lemon juices, if liked. Then pour the liquid over the pears.
  5. Cool, then chill before serving.
