Honouring Eileen

Prestatyn Fundraising Group remembers inventive and energetic member, Eileen.

Prestatyn Fundraising Group has been a proud and dedicated supporter of British Heart Foundation (BHF) since it formed in 1989. The group grew into a vibrant community of volunteers who, at their peak, raised an average of £8,000 each year through fundraising activities and In Memoriam donations. Over time, circumstances changed, and in 2023 the group transitioned into a smaller, informal group. With fewer and ageing volunteers, fundraising now takes place 3 or 4 times a year, alongside In Memoriam and private donations.

Over the years, the group has organised an impressive range of fundraising events, including coffee mornings, sponsored walks, stalls at local events, concerts, supermarket collections, cheese and wine suppers, quiz nights, garden parties and Christmas tree festivals. These events not only raised vital funds but also brought the community together.

At the heart of many of these activities was Eileen Tyas, a devoted member of the group who sadly passed away in October 2025. Her passion for BHF’s cause was rooted in personal experience, after losing her husband to a heart attack when their daughter was just 16 years old. Eileen was an inventive, energetic fundraiser, and played a leading role in some of the group’s most memorable events. She regularly hosted garden parties at her home, with a keen eye for detail in setting up. Her creativity shone through as she designed the group’s Christmas tree entry for the Festival of Christmas Trees at Prestatyn Church each year, and won first prize in 2014.

Eileen’s legacy lives on in the funds she helped raise, the events she brought to life, and the community spirit she inspired.

Thank you, Eileen and Prestatyn Fundraising Group, for your determination and unwavering commitment to making a difference.
