Gift Aid terms and conditions

The terms and conditions (T&Cs) for Gift Aid are different depending on whether you’re donating items or money. Find out more about the terms and conditions which apply to adding Gift Aid to your donations.

Donated items T&Cs

By signing up to Gift Aid for your donated items, you’re agreeing to the following terms and conditions:

  • you wish BHF to claim tax on all donations you make in the future or have made in the past 4 years
  • you are a UK tax payer and understand that if you pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year it is your responsibility yo pay any difference
  • you wish BHF Shops Ltd to act as your agent in selling the goods you have donated and agree to a commission of 1% for this service
  • you are not acting as a business in bringing goods in for sale to any shops belonging to BHF
  • any items not sold will be recycled where possible and cannot be returned to the donor. We reserve the right to terminate this agreement at any time
  • the goods which you are offering to us are your own to give and do not belong to another household. 

Donated money T&Cs

By signing up to Gift Aid for your donated money, you’re agreeing to the following terms and conditions:

  • you are a UK taxpayer
  • if you pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year, it is your responsibility to pay any difference.
  • the donation must be your own personal money. If the donation has been collected from a third party (for example at a fundraising event, from a friend or family member, a sweepstake or raffle, or this donation is being made on behalf of a company), we are unable to claim any Gift Aid on it
  • you must let us know if you want to cancel the declaration, change your name and/or address or no longer pay sufficient tax on your income and/or capital gains.
