Blood pressure: How can we do better?

We can do more.

NEW: Updated in February 2018, now including data for 2016/17.

Millions of people across the UK have undiagnosed hypertension. Many of those diagnosed are not treated to target. Together, we can change this picture.

The BHF and its partners have come together to provide data and resources to help you improve the detection and management of high blood pressure (BP) in your area. These include:

  • summaries of national BP data for England and Wales
  • detailed reports of BP care at clinical commissioning group (CCG) level in England
  • recommendations for commissioners and GP practices about how to improve care.

These resources exist thanks to GPs, nurses and pharmacists of the CVD Leadership Forum who have worked with the BHF and Public Health England's National Cardiovascular Intelligence Network, the Royal College of General Practitioners, the Stroke Association, Public Health Wales, Blood Pressure UK and the British and Irish Hypertension Society. The data are sourced from the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF), hospital activity, the Office for National Statistics and PHE.
